Talk:Soul-Rage Skald (3.5e Class)

Time for a play by play, writing this as I see it.

  • I was told this class was the sublime barbarian, so to speak, but it starts with d8, medium BAB, and good fort and will? It doesn't look very barbariany. Well, I'll just it for what it actually is, as well as for what it reportedly is.
  • Small list, focused on RWARSMASH, TANKMAN, and BOOSTBUDDY. The last one seems random, but let's see how it fits into the concept.
  • Refresh by entering a war chant or rage. Hmmm... waiting to see what that is.
  • Fast Move, ok.
  • Bardic Lore? Not barbariany, but ok.
  • War chant, here we go. ....huh, well that explains it, it's like a BARDBARIAN really. White Raven now makes sense, this is a tribal war leader dude.
  • Basic rage, but oddly small number of rages per day, alright.
  • Alright now that I know these too it appears the refresh is "free action up to 4/day" or "standard action to do some bard stuff". Alright, fair enough.
  • Martial Rage: When I made a little preview of a sublime barbarian I did something similar, that is, rage gave more maneuvers than normal, but only usable in rage. That idea mutated into my psionic barbarian class, but same concept.
  • Alt Tradition, ok.
  • Chanting Rage, oh that's interesting. Does this mean that before 8th level if you run out of maneuvers, rage to refresh, and run out again you don't really have much of an option to refresh once more?
  • Child of Winter: And outta nowhere, cold resist! Dunno if this is a frost themed barbarian or not but that was... random, no buildup or anything. I had no idea it was even a cold themed barbarian besides the Bjorkian name.
  • Greater Rage, ok.
  • Voice of the Tribe: Amusing but one of those useless abilities at high level. And why expend rage for it?
  • Tireless rage, ok.
  • Herald, ok but strange. What is 1/10 day? Once every 10 days? How clunky. Can't see what the monsters are as they aren't made yet but I assume its something suitable for 20th.

Overall, not bad, though hardly the "similar ToB barbarian" I was expecting. Some things need work, but it's solid.

(Rating for both now: IMO neither are ready for a showing, though the Skald is less problematic ATM.) -- Eiji-kun 01:02, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

There's nothing specifically for me to dislike here. It's a ToB class, full of all the bad shit ToB does and all the good shit ToB does in equal measure. Maybe it's just not for me. I find it difficult to care about it either way.
