Talk:Summon Wyvern (3.5e Spell)
Do you intend to add any options to summon more than one wyvern at a time, like most summoning spells? Such as two wyverns, with X Hit Dice less, four with twice the HD penalty, and so on? Also, since Wyverns are of the dragon type (D12 Hit Dice, Good BAB, all good saves), and since they increase in size at 8 HD to Huge, and to Gargantuan at just eleven, you do realise those are quite powerful critters (and grapplers) you got there? Not even counting the several ways that exist to increase caster level, etc. At least, it's a level five spell, which justifies why the spell will remain relevant at any playing level. It might be alright, I guess, since I always felt the Summon line of spells just a little underwhelming in general. Anyway, I always thought most poisonous creatures needed a limit to the number of times they could use their poison before running out, don't you guys think? (determined by Con or Cha mod, maybe?) Hell, I might end up actually writing an alternative rules page myself someday!.. -HarrowedMind 22:27, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was aware that they get big quick, and that their powerful. Because they're dragon type with good hit dice, BAB and Saves, I didnt intend for them to summon more than one, and I chose the spell level based off of the types of CR's available in Summon Monster spell, it is level 5 for most classes cept bard, which is 4, because of the spell level difference between sorcerer/bard. Not sure about poison limits, I intended the summoned wyvern to function in all ways like a typical one, so if the rules are already in there for limited poison, it would apply. I appreciate your input though, thanks! :) The-Marksman 13:24, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- I just looked at this and noticed that at level 9 (when many classes first get level 5 spells), this spell doesn't have any effect. You may want to throw in a note saying that at this minimum, this still summons a 7 HD wyvern. --Undead_Knave (talk) 07:37, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- I didnt even notice that, thank you very much for bringing that up. I dont generally read my talk pages often so sorry for the long delay. Updated the page to reflect the hit dice omission that I previously made. The-Marksman (talk) 15:07, 15 March 2015 (UTC)
