Bonuses[edit]

Shouldn't Concealment add bonuses to your check?--ParakeeTalk 18:49, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Yes, but it doesn't have to be on this end. Since some types of concealment are negated by some senses it's easier to apply concealment as a penalty to the perception check when it applies rather than all the time on the check here and then cancel it some of the time. Which is what I did with the "sense to notice event is impaired" modifier on that page. - Tarkisflux Talk 19:36, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Does moving at a hustle and being involved in melee stack to give a -15 penalty? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.90.104.57 (talkcontribs) at

No, none of these are supposed to stack. I'll label them in a bit for clarity. - Tarkisflux Talk 23:38, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
If you are attacking someone and trying to remain hidden from them, do they take the -10 distracted penalty to perception?
No, it's supposed to only apply if they were already in a fight, not just stabbed by you. So if the target was already engaged with someone else, then that would certainly apply initially and the backstabber could probably get away. If they were not already engaged with someone else, then they would have whatever penalty was appropriate for what they were doing right before they got stabbed (and the stabber is less likely to get away).
Note that the intent is for the distracted penalties to only apply when something is keeping your attention elsewhere, like another target in a fight or an engrossing theatrical performance or a fascinate effect or whatever, but to not apply against those things that were holding your attention so that you didn't suffer penalties against them for trying to make them out. So the -10 melee penalty wouldn't apply against people you were engaging, just against keeping track of what was going on outside of the fight. It will be changed when I can figure out a way to word the distracted penalties not applying to the object of your attention that makes me happy and doesn't make "keeping watch" weird. - Tarkisflux Talk 18:14, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
