For a moment there, you swore you saw the engraved image of the king on this golden coin move its mouth.
What seems to be nothing more than a golden coin is actually a cursed item made by prankster wizards. Once accepted and placed into a pile of 10 or more other gold coins, it bonds to this particular user or group (as well as causing all of their gold coins to radiate faint illusion). Whenever the group would rest or at key times that it would make them most paranoid, it uses detect thoughts (unlimited duration up to concentration) to all creatures in a 20 ft radius of it. It uses a combination of mind reading and simple listening in to gather all sorts of lore on its owners.
At the worst opportunity the coin will begin shouting or making noise to ruin stealth attempts, embarrass diplomatic efforts, reveal precious secrets, cause infighting, and otherwise be a pain in the backside. If the coin is found and thrown away or given away, it greater teleports back to its owners at the next opportunity. As simply removing it is rarely effective, and finding it within the infected pile is a pain, the victims either need to sort all of their money into piles of 9 or less coins or bathe their entire gold supply in holy water. The tattletale coin dissolves in holy water. Typically one must use 1 vial of holy water for every 100 gp in gold possessed.
Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, bestow curse, detect thoughts, magic aura, magic mouth.
