1. See Damage Increases by Size to calculate the damage for a weapon larger than Medium or smaller than Small.
2. Weight figures are for Medium weapons. A Small weapon weighs half as much, and a Large weapon weighs twice as much.
3. When two types are given, the weapon is both types if the entry specifies "and", either type (player's choice at time of attack) if the entry specifies "or", or each end of the double weapon is a different type if the entry specifies "/".
4. The hp value given is for Medium armor, weapons, and shields. Divide by 2 for each size category of the item smaller than Medium, or multiply it by 2 for each size category larger than Medium.

This metal quarterstaff can be used as a simple weapon identical to a normal quarterstaff as long as it is in its base form. With a click of a switch, the pole can be extended or contracted as a free action, from 4 feet up to 20 ft long. This counts as a masterwork tool for Balance and Jump checks.

Those proficient in this weapon can use it in long jump attempts, doubling the height and distance they would otherwise go. In addition they are capable of extending and retracting the pole in the middle of combat. The weapon grants reach up to 20 ft, but for every 5 ft beyond you take a cumulative -2 penalty to attack rolls (maximum -6 at 20 ft reach). Unlike most other weapons with reach, it can be used against an adjacent foe.

A telescoping staff is a double weapon. You can fight with it as if fighting with two weapons, but if you do, you incur all the normal attack penalties associated with fighting with two weapons, just as if you were using a one-handed weapon and a light weapon. A creature wielding a telescoping staff in one hand can’t use it as a double weapon—only one end of the weapon can be used in any given round.

The telescoping staff is a special monk weapon. This designation gives a monk wielding a telescoping staff special options. It counts as a quarterstaff for all purposes, including interacting with feats and abilities.
