Tholan’s projects were known for toeing and in some cases ignoring ethical boundaries. This spell, field-tested on student offenders accused of working against the Enforcement Council, was one of the latter.

This spell is used to forcibly view a single memory of a target, although it cannot alter memories in any fashion. Upon casting, the caster must make a caster level check, for which the DC is equal to 10 + the Challenge Rating of the target, to determine how many rounds of successful interrogation it will take to either locate the memory being searched for or confirm that the target does not possess the knowledge the caster is searching for. The number of successful interrogation rounds necessary (see below for details on interrogation) is equal to 1 + however many rounds the DC beats the caster's level check.

Each round, the target of the spell takes 1 point of nonlethal damage per Challenge Rating they possess and must attempt a Will save (if they so elect) to resist the caster's attempts to probe their mind for the desired memory. If they succeed, the nonlethal damage is halved (round down) and the mind probe fails for that round. Each round that the target fails a Will save is one successful round of interrogation towards the required amount. If the caster does not reach the required number of rounds in the same casting of the spell, the target has successfully repelled them and the spell has failed. If this occurs, the caster must start again with a new casting of the spell and a new caster level check, regardless of any previous check results.
