Elite Ranger[edit]

Elite Class: An elite version of a base class is meant to be used by player characters or powerful NPCs in a game where third party material such as Path of War or Psionic is used. These classes are stronger than their base variants, to narrow down the power gap between player characters. The elite variant attempts not to change any core mechanics of the class. It is intended that player (or powerful NPCs) pick the elite version of a class as their main class, while the base version is reserved for NPCs and for players who are multiclassing.

A variant of the ranger which receives rather mild, if rather impactful upgrades. He is a better tracker starting at level 2, where tracking might matter more than levels where divination starts appearing. Her animal companion no longer requires a feat tax. The spellcasting was buffed, so it felt better to use at low and mid-level. I have explicitly avoided touching the favored enemy class feature in this redesign, since many fixes already exist and are likely superior to whatever I could come up with.

Changes[edit]

  • Skills: An elite ranger adds Sense Motive to her list of class skills.
  • Altered Class Features: Hunter’s Bond, Spells, Swift Tracking
  • New Class Features: Fast Movement, Nimble, Secondary Combat Style, Superior Tracking

Altered Class Features[edit]

  • Swift Tracking (Ex): The ranger receives this class feature at level 2.
  • Hunter’s Bond: If the ranger chooses an animal companion, she uses her full ranger level as her effective druid level.
  • Spellcasting: A ranger gains an additional spell per day at every level she can cast, up to a maximum of 4 spells per day (before any bonus spell from high ability score or other source..)

New Class Features[edit]

Nimble (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, an elite ranger gains a +1 dodge bonus to AC while wearing medium, light or no armor and on initiative checks. Anything that causes the elite ranger to lose her Dexterity bonus to AC also causes the ranger to lose this dodge bonus. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels beyond 2nd level (to a maximum of +5 at 18th level).

Fast Movement (Ex): A 4th level elite ranger’s land speed is faster than the norm for his race by +10 feet. This benefit applies only when he is wearing no armor, light armor, or medium armor, and not carrying a heavy load. Apply this bonus before modifying the elite ranger’s speed because of any load carried or armor worn. This bonus stacks with any other bonuses to the elite ranger’s land speed.

Secondary Combat Style: At 6th level, an elite ranger chooses a second combat style. Whenever he selects a combat style feat, he may select it from either of his combat styles. He treats his effective ranger level as being 4 lower for the purpose of selecting feat from that combat style.

Superior Tracking (Ex): At 8th level, an elite ranger no longer takes a penalty on survival checks made to follow tracks while twice his normal speed.

Archetype Changes[edit]

Blood Hunter[edit]

  • The blood hunter no longer replaces her spellcasting for the hunting ground class feature.
