Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Codex Roboticist.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A roboticist is proficient with all simple weapons, plus the greatclub, light hammer, light and heavy picks, warhammer, all martial and exotic crossbow as well as one exotic crossbow or firearm. Roboticists are proficient with light armor and shields (except tower shields). A roboticist can cast roboticist spells while wearing light armor or using shields (but not tower shields) without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance. However, like any other arcane spellcaster, a roboticist wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield incurs a chance of arcane spell failure if the spell in question has a somatic component (most do). A multiclassing roboticist still incurs the normal arcane spell failure chance for arcane spells received from other classes.

Spells: A roboticist casts arcane spells which are drawn from the roboticist spell list below. A roboticist cast her spell spontaneously from her list, she has no need for preparation. To cast a spell, the roboticist must have an Intelligence score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a roboticist's spell is 10 + the spell level + the roboticist's Intelligence modifier.

Like other spellcasters, a roboticist can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given on Table: The Roboticist. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Intelligence score. Like most spellcasters she regain her spell per day after resting at least 8 hours.

A Roboticist's spellcasting cannot benefits from the Ascended Progression feat and cannot be made into scrolls or consumable items as is. She may still craft magic consumables with the spells on her spell list, but they are treated as of the same level as they are found on either the Cleric, Druid or Wizard spell list.

Trapfinding (Ex): A 1st level roboticist gains trapfinding as a rogue.

Tweaks: A roboticist can prepare a number of 'tweaks' or 0-level spell equal to her intelligence bonus, unlike normal spell she may use her tweaks at will.

Life Link (Su): The animating force for the roboticist's robotic companion is not an elemental or bound spirit, but his own. As a result, whenever the robotic companion takes enough damage to destroy it the roboticist can sacrifice any number of hit points. Each hit point sacrificed in this way prevents 1 point of damage done to the robotic companion. This can prevent the robotic companion from being destroyed.

In addition the robotic companion and roboticist must remain within 100 ft of each other to remain at full strength. Beyond 100 ft but closer than 1000 ft, its current and maximum hp is reduced by 50%. At 1000 ft away but closer than 10,000 ft, its current and maximum hp are reduced by 75%. Greater than 10,000 ft away, and the robotic companion falls to -1 hp, stable and inert (see robotic companion on how it interacts with death and dying). Current hp lost this way are not restored when the robotic companion gets closer to the roboticist , but its maximum hp does return to normal.

Robotic Companion: The roboticist's greatest achievement, at 1st level he manages to create a unique construct imbued with his own life force. It acts in a manner similar to an animal companion or a familiar, aiding the roboticist in battle and other situations and maintaining a close spiritual link with the roboticist. A robotic companion has the same alignment as its creator, and can understand all languages its creator knows. If it has an Int score of at least 3 it can also speak. They are constructs, but unlike most constructs they are not destroyed when they hit 0 hp, but instead are staggered at 0 hp, inert at -1 to -9, and dead at -10 like a living creature. They automatically stabilize and still lack a Con score, as they are not living constructs. Initially creating a robotic companion takes 24 hours and inexpensive but plentiful raw materials, typically wood, stone, and iron lashed together into a composite being as simple as astatue or as complex as a robot with gears, pipes, pistons, and pulleys. The physical appearance is up to the roboticist, but many choose humanoid forms. Regardless of form, the appearance is always clearly mechanical in nature. The robotic companion bears a glowing rune visible to detect magic that the roboticist also bears which is a visible mark of their link. This rune can be hidden through mundane means or covered if need be.

Use Mechanical Device: A roboticist is a natural with machines, gaining "Use Mechanical Device", a unique skill that allows the roboticist to identify and operate machines whose function is unknown to her. It is similar to a Use Magic Device check, but is her class level + her Int modifier, and having 5 ranks in Knowledge: Engineering gives a +2 synergy bonus to her roll.

As a general rule, DC 10 is for simple, unknown devices such as a gun, a simple vehicle, or determining what exposed gears and wires connect to. DC 20 is for complex devices, such as trying to drive a car, operating a machine with three or more complex functions, determining where gears or wires go with only indirect or partial evidence, or understanding what a complex machine does (but not how it does it). DC 30 is for really complicated devices, alien technologies, machines with non-visible parts (such as many microscopic electronics), or extremely multifunctional items.

Checks to see if she knows what it is off the bat take no longer than a Knowledge check, but checks to figure out what something does generally take 1 minute of study. Checks can be rushed to 1 round by increasing the DC by +10.

Analyze Construct (Ex): At 2nd level a roboticist knows all about constructs and may make a Knowledge: Arcana check to identify them as a free action. If they succeed, they gain the ability to make critical hits and sneak attacks against the identified constructs. If they already possessed the ability to make critical hits and sneak attacks against constructs, successfully identifying them grants an additional 1d6 damage on all attack against the identified construct.

Craftsman (Ex): At 2nd level, a roboticist gains an edge on other crafters when creating objects and knowing about arcane devices. She gains half her class level as an insight bonus to all Craft checks and to Knowledge Arcana and Spellcraft checks. She may use said skills untrained.

Sense Link (Su): Starting at 2nd level, a roboticist can, as a standard action, share the senses of his robotic companion; hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, and touching everything the robotic companion does. He can use this ability a number of rounds per day equal to his roboticist level. There is no range to this effect, but the roboticist and the robotic companion must be on the same plane. The roboticist can end this effect as a free action.

Craft Construct: At 3rd level a roboticist gains the Craft Construct feat as a bonus feat, even if she does not meet the prerequisites.

Item Capsulation (Su): It turns out carrying around several tons of scrap metal and constructs is really hard. A 3rd level roboticist discovers the secrets of material compression and can turn objects into small spheres the size of sling bullets. As a full-round action, she may convert a single object weighting no more than 100 lbs per level into such a sphere. If she can wield it she can turn it back into it original as a free action after retrieving the capsule, otherwise she may throw it within close range and have it resume it original form as a standard action.

She may also compress construct into a capsule, doing so require a full-round action. She may only compress a construct whose size is larger or smaller and that is under her full control.

Hack Construct (Su): At 4th level, a roboticist gain the ability to control the animating spirit inside of a construct. As a standard action she may force a single construct within range to make a Will save. If it fail it is Dazed for a round. No matter it succeed or fail, once a construct has been affected by Hack Construct cannot be affected again by it for 1 hour. A Roboticist may only use Hack Construct a number of time per day equal to her Intelligence modifier.

At 8th level she can no control the construct, duplicating the effect of suggestion except it last 1 round per level. She also gain the ability to use the dazing effect in a 30 ft. radius around herself, affecting all hostile construct instead of a single target.

At 12th level she gain complete control of the system, replicating dominate person with a duration of 1 round/level person instead.

At 16th level she may cause a complete shutdown, permanently Paralyzing the construct.

At 20th level she may have a single construct permanently dominated (as the 12th level ability). If she dominate another this way the previous one is freed.

Recycle Construct (Ex): A 4th level roboticist makes well with whatever scrap she can find. She can break down a destroyed construct into raw components and store it in storage, gaining scrap worth half the creation cost and half the xp cost of the destroyed construct. For example, an iron golem (80,000gp + 5600 xp) gives 40,000 gp and 2,800 xp in scrap. Scrap cannot be used for anything other than assisting in the creation of another construct, reducing material and xp costs appropriately. Recycling a construct takes 30 minutes and requires a successful Knowledge Arcana or Knowledge Engineering check (DC 20), it is a delicate process and cannot be rushed.

Shield Ally (Ex): At 4th level, whenever a roboticist is within his robotic companion's reach, the roboticist receives a +2 shield bonus to his Armor Class and a +2 circumstance bonus on his saving throws. This bonus does not apply if the robotic companion is grappled, helpless, paralyzed, stunned, or inert.

Special Capsule (Su): At 6th level roboticist is now capable of designing special capsules (see Item Capsulation).These capsule typically have a creation cost assigned to them and must be selected from this list:

Animated Capsule: The capsule is a small construct, although incapable of attacking it is able move 30 ft as a move action. These animated capsules are diminutive sized orbs with an AC of 18 (+8 size), negligible weight, and ability scores, saves, and hp of the compressed item or construct. They are able to self-deploy or self-capsulate as a standard action. A Animated Capsule cost 500 gp and can be re-used between constructs or object with 10 minutes of work.
House Capsule: This capsule can be activated to grew into the equivalent of a ranch house. Items stored in the house are also contained in the capsule but creatures are automatically ejected from the house when returned to capsule form. Due to its nature the capsule home requires a 50x50 empty space and relatively flat terrain in order to be properly deployed; if the prerequisites are not met, it simply fails to deploy. This capsule cost 4000 gp to manufacture.

Disrupt Construct (Ex): Never build something you don't know how to take apart. A 7th level roboticist gains +2 attack and +2d6 damage against any creatures of the construct type, and against objects.

At 14th level the roboticist is an adept at dismantling constructs, if she roll a natural 20 on an attack roll against a construct it must make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + 1/2 Class Level + Intelligence bonus) or become stunned for 1 round, ignore immunities.

Bonus Feat: At 5th level and every five levels beyond, a roboticist gains any item creation feat, or a bonus feat selected from the following list: Device Knowledge, Efficient Crafting, Handyman,Nimble Fingers, Skill Focus (Craft, Knowledge Arcana, or Spellcraft) Skill Tool Optimization or Weaponize Tool.

Mechanical Expertise (Ex): A 5th level when crafting within a workshop, garage or factory fitted with all the tool she need, the roboticist count the price of any items she craft in platinum rather than silver for the purpose of determining how long it take to craft. Additionally can fix a Broken item much more quickly than normal, she only need to spend 1 minute of work per 1 hit point of the item. If she has a full workplace alongside tool she only need to spend 1 minutes per 5 hit points instead.

Imbue Item (Ex): A roboticist of 6th level or higher can use her supernatural power to create magic items, even if she does not know the spells required to make an item or construct (although she must know the appropriate item creation feat). She can substitute a Use Mechanical Device check (DC 15 + spell level for arcane spells or 25 + spell level for divine spells) in place of a required spell she doesn't know or can't cast.

Speak with Constructs (Su): An 9th level roboticist is under the constant effect of speak with constructs. Treat as speak with animals, but limited to creatures of the construct type. Unfortunately, many constructs are mindless and thus have little to nothing to say.

Transportation Network (Su): A 11th level roboticist knows how to build a teleportation network; she may use create anchor point and warp as supernatural abilities at will. She may only warp to a warp anchor sigil she herself created.

All constructs she built and will build are able to use warp once per day as well with the same limitation as the roboticist. She may add this feature to constructs she did not create with 8 hours of work and 1,000 gp in material expenses.

Minor Cybernetic (Ex): A 13th level roboticist has integrated constructs parts in her anatomy. She only need half as much air, food, rest and water to survive and gain a 6 bonus on saving throws against disease and poison. She gain low-light vision, if she already possessed it it become superior low-light vision.

Immortality (Ex): A 18th level roboticist constant tinkering with her body lead her to stop aging conventionally. She no longer age, not accruing aging bonus or penalties and do not die upon reaching her maximum age.

Perfect Automata (Ex): A 20th level roboticist win dnd (not really)
