Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Wizlock.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Wizlocks are proficient with all simple weapons. They are not proficient with any type of armor or shield. Armor of any type interferes with a wizlock’s gestures, which can cause his spells with somatic components to fail.

Spells: A wizlock cast arcane spells spontaneously, although they need to prepare their spells in advance like a Wizard. In order to cast a spell, a wizlock must first prepare her spells from her spell book exactly like a Wizard do.

The key spellcasting ability score of a wizlock is Charisma. Her daily allotment of spells prepared is listed on the Wizlock Spell Prepared table below. Once a wizlock has prepared her spells she may cast them spontaneously like a Sorcerer using her daily allotment of spell slots. Like most other casters, a wizlock must rest to regain her spells for the day. Unlike a wizard, a wizlock does not receive additional spells prepared each day for having a high ability score, but she does receive additional spell slots.

A wizlock begins play with a spellbook containing all 0-level sorcerer/wizard spells (except those from her prohibited school or schools, if any; see School Specialization, below) plus three 1st-level spells of your choice. For each point of Charisma bonus the wizlock has, the spellbook holds one additional 1st-level spell of your choice. At each new wizlock level, she gains two new spells of any spell level or levels that she can cast (based on her new wizard level) for her spellbook. At any time, a wizlock can also add spells found in other wizards or wizlock’ spellbooks to her own.

A wizlock may prepare a spell with a metamagic feat applied to it like a Wizard or may apply them spontaneously like a Sorcerer.

Like a Wizard, a wizlock can choose to specialize. If she does she chooses two schools of magic which are prohibited to her to gain an additional spell prepared of each level she can cast for spells of the chosen school. A wizlock may decide to specialize in invocation instead, gaining an additional spell prepared per day for each level she can cast, but can only prepare her invocations in them. A wizlock's invocations are not hindered by her prohibited schools, even if they replicate a spell normally prohibited to the wizlock.

Invocations: A wizlock is capable of casting invocation, like a warlock. Unlike a warlock, a wizlock requires both somatic and vocal components for her invocation and she must prepare it much like a spell. An invocation must be prepared as a spell of its level, or in a higher spell slot. A wizlock's invocation spell level is equal to its listed spell level, or the wizlock's highest level spell she can cast, whichever is lower. A wizlock may apply a [metamagic] feat to an invocation by preparing it in a higher level spells slot, much like preparing a spell modified with the same metamagic feat. A wizlock cannot spontaneously apply a [metamagic] feat to her invocations.

A wizlock starts knowing one invocation and learns more invocations as she level. The wizlock cannot learn any essence or shape invocations. A wizlock can only learn invocation at 1st level, at 6th level she can also learn lesser invocation, greater at 11th and dark invocation at 16th. Unlike casting a spell, casting an invocation does not expend a spell slot, the invocation can be cast at-will. The DC of a wizlock's invocation is DC 10 + the spell level they were prepared in + the wizlock's Charisma modifier.

Finally a wizlock is capable of changing a single invocation she knows for another of the same strength (least, lesser, greater, dark) when she prepares her spells for the day.

Enchanted Blast (Sp): A wizlock is capable of unleashing a blast of raw magic from her outstretched hand or any panoply focus. An enchanted blast requires somatic components unlike most spell-like abilities. An enchanted blast is a ray with a range of 30 ft. and deals 1d6 + the wizlock Charisma modifier in pure magical damage on a hit. An enchanted blast counts as a spell of the highest level the wizlock can cast.

A wizlock can spend a spell slot while firing her enchanted blast, adding 1d6 damage per level of the spell slot used. The enchanted blast receives an additional 1d6 point of damage if a spell slot of 3rd level or higher is used and by another d6 for each odd spell level beyond (to a maximum of an extra 4d6 for a 9th level spell).

Familiar: A wizlock has a familiar as a Wizard of her level. At 7th level she gain the Improved Familiar feat as a bonus feat. If she already had the feat she may select another feat she qualifies for and gain that feat as a bonus feat.

Magic Item Expert (Ex): A wizlock adds half her class level as a bonus on Use Magic Item checks.

Magic Reader (Sp): A wizlock of 4th level is able to use read magic and identify as spell-like abilities at-will.

Arcane Panoply (Ex): At 3rd level and each 3 levels thereafter, a wizlock creates, finds or inherits a strange and unique magical item called a panoply focus. A panoply focus does not interfere with somatic components while wielded and they provide a variety of benefits. All panoply focus also modify and enhance the wizlock's enchanted blast while wielded, even if their effect does not normally require them to be wielded. Both wielded panoply focus enhance the enchanted blast, although the wizlock may decide to not have a panoply focus enhance a blast when it is fired. Because of magical interference, a wizlock can only wield two panoply focuses at once, even if she has more arms or another means of holding items. Any additional panoply focus wielded focus has no effects, although the wizlock may change which panoply focus is active as a free action.

Once a panoply focus is selected it cannot be changed. If a panoply focus is lost or destroyed, the wizlock can replace it by spending 100 gp per class level and a 8 hours ritual per destroyed panoply focus. Any enhancement, spell stored within and other special ability placed on the panoply focus is also restored upon its recreation. A panoply focus has half as many hit point as the wizlock and hardness of 10 + half her class level. A panoply focus counts as a magic item for all intent and purpose and can be disabled or suppressed like such. A panoply focus only function for the wizlock who created it.

Astrolabe: This portable astrolabe grants a constant know direction effect while wielded. A enchanted blast enhanced by an astrolabe appears as small meteorites, allowing the wizlock to fire four enchanted meteorites which behave much like meteor swarm spells. The meteors each deals the enchanted blast damage and explode dealing minimum damage within 10 ft. with a Reflex save (DC 10 + half class level + the wizlock's Charisma modifier) for half. The meteorites may be aimed at different targets within 30 ft, or at the same target, divided at the wizlock's choice. A wizlock must be at least 15th level to select this panoply focus.

Hourglass: A innocuous but powerful item, the hourglass controls time. The wielder of the hourglass can cast clockstopper and time stop spontaneously by expending a spell slot of the correct level. A wizlock must be at least 12th level to select this panoply focus.

Goblet: A simple metal or glass goblet, inscribed with an ancient rune. This panoply focus increases the caster level of any potion drank from it by 2, this also functions on potion fed to the target by the wizlock. An enchanted blast enhanced by a goblet deals an additional 1d6 damage to undead creatures.

Mirror: This nice polished handheld mirror holds many secrets. While wielded the mirror grants the wizlock the Improved Counterspell feat. Additionally any spell successfully counterspelled by the mirror-wielding wizlock is immediately turned back at the caster. If the spell has an area of effect, it must be centered on the caster and started at the wizlock. An enchanted blast enhanced by the mirror bounces to a secondary target with its range, dealing half damage to the secondary target on a successful hit.

Orb: If used as part of spell preparation, the orb grants the wizlock an additional spell prepared per day of each level she can cast. This extra slot must be used to prepare a divination spell. An enchanted blast enhanced by the orb deals d8s instead of d6s, this includes any extra dice from using a spell or another panoply focus's enhancement. A wizlock must be at least 6th level to select this panoply focus.

Puzzlebox: An enigmatic puzzlebox, usually made of brass or precious metal. While wielded the puzzlebox grants a +1 to the DC of illusion (pattern) spells the wizlock casts and a +4 bonus on Will save against mind-affecting effect. An enchanted blast enhanced by the puzzlebox has its critical threat increased to 19-20.

Rod: A solid rod made entirely of metal or hardy wood. The rod grants a +1 bonus on the DC of all enchantment spells the wizlock casts and a +2 bonus on caster level check against opposed dispel attempts. An enchanted blast enhanced by the rod has its range increased to 120 ft. The rod can be used and enhanced as a light mace.

Skull: An ancient engraved skull, perhaps of an ancestor. If used during spell preparation the skill grants the wizlock an additional spell prepared per day of each level she can cast. This extra slot must be used to prepare a necromancy spell. An enchanted blast enhanced by the skull deals an additional 1d6 damage per 5 class level against living creatures. A wizlock must be at least 6th level to select this panoply focus.

Staff: A symbol of power, the staff is mighty. While wielded the staff increase the damage of all the wizlock damaging spells by 1 point per dice rolls. An enchanted blast enhanced by the staff ignores spell resistance. A wizlock must be at least 6th level to select this panoply focus.

Tome: This old dusty tome holds more knowledge than many know in their entire lifetime. The tome acts as both a Blessed Book and a Book of Knowledge (Arcana). The wizlock can use gold pieces to add more knowledge to the tome. An enchanted blast enhanced by the tome deals half damage on a miss.

Telescope: A small telescope which can be used for exploration or stargazing. Beside working like an actual telescope, the telescope grants the wielded half her class level as a bonus on spot check and a +2 bonus on initiative while wielded. The bonus to initiative increases by +1 at 5th and each 5 levels thereafter (to a maximum of +6). An enchanted blast enhanced by the telescope ignores any cover or concealment except total cover and total concealment.

Wand: A small but finely crafted wand, the incredible finesse used to create it speaks for its arcane power. When the wand is selected, the wizlock chooses a single [metamagic] feat that she meets the prerequisites. While wielding the wand, the wizlock gains access to that metamagic feat but cannot use it to qualify for prerequisites. Each time the wizlock levels, she may change the [metamagic] feat granted by the wand to another she meets the prerequisites of. If a wizlock has a spell prepared with the [metamagic] contained in the wand, she must be wielding it to cast the spell. An enchanted blast enhanced by the wand deals splash damage on a successful hit to all opponents adjacent to the primary target, equal to the minimum damage of the blast (no save). This damage does not stack with the damage done to the primary target.

Bonus Feats: At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th level, a wizlock gains a bonus feat. At each such opportunity, she can choose a metamagic feat, an item creation feat, or one of the following feats; Accelerated Progression, Extra InvocationCA, Greater Spell Focus, Spell Focus, or Spell Mastery. The wizlock must still meet all prerequisites for a bonus feat, including caster level minimums.

Floating Panoply (Su): At 8th level, a wizlock can have up to two her panoply focuses floats besides her and follow her perfectly. The panoply focus is not considered to be wielded, but the wizlock may recall it to her hand as a free action if she has a hand free. If the wiz lock is disarmed of a panoply focus and has less than two floating panoply focus, she may have it float beside her as an immediate action instead of being snatched by an opponent or fall.

At 14th level, the wizlock may have up to four floating panoply foci.

Panoply of Artifacts (Ex): A 19th level wizlock's panoply now counts as minor artifact and thus cannot be dispelled or suppressed by normal means.

Arcane Supremacy (Ex): At 20th level, a wizlock has unlocked true arcane power. She can cast and prepare 2 additional spells per day of each level she can cast.
