Lesser Helm of Stacking[edit]

Helm of Stacking, Lesser
Price:
Body Slot: Head
Caster Level: 10
Aura:
Activation:
Weight: 5 lb.

As you place the helmet on your head, you find the bull's strength spell your ally cast upon you is now resonating with your gauntlets of ogre strength, where before they had been struggling against each other to reign supreme. As a result, you feel far stronger than before.

While you wear this helmet, the normal rules for stacking bonuses are somewhat bent; two bonuses being applied to the same statistic that normally could not stack (such as bonuses of the same type) are allowed to stack. You may stack any number of bonuses, as long as no more than two normally non-stacking bonuses (such as bonuses of the same type) applied to the same statistic are stacking; if a third bonus of a given non-stacking type is applied to a given statistic, only apply the two greatest bonuses. It does not matter what the source of each bonus is, though one casting of a spell, power, et cetera counts as one bonus. For instance, if you had a +3 enhancement bonus to Strength, a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength, a second +2 enhancement bonus to Strength, and a +1 enhancement bonus to Strength, you could stack the +3 bonus and one of the +2 bonuses, but not the other +2 bonus or the +1 bonus, for a total +5 bonus; as normal, those unapplied bonuses would still be present on your character, but would not be allowed to do anything unless and until one of the stronger bonuses expired, was dispelled, was removed, or otherwise went away. Likewise, if you had two +3 insight bonuses to AC, a +2 insight bonus to AC, a +3 deflection bonus to AC, and a +1 deflection bonus to AC, you could stack the two +3 insight bonuses and both deflection bonuses (as bonuses of different types can almost always stack freely), but you could not also benefit from the +2 insight bonus, so your total bonus to AC would be +10; furthermore, if a third deflection bonus were to be applied, the weakest deflection bonus would become inert until one of the bonuses went away.

Beware, for the helmet allows penalties to stack in the same manner as bonuses.

While you wear this helmet, a bonus or penalty that is allowed to stack with similar or identical bonuses/penalties, but only a finite number of times, has its maximum number of stacks increased by one. Bonuses and penalties that are allowed to stack with similar or identical bonuses or penalties without limit (such as dodge bonuses) are mostly unaffected by a lesser helm of stacking; however, as a spell or similar effect is normally never allowed to stack with other instances of itself, even if it provides a benefit or hindrance that could otherwise stack with similar benefits or hindrances, a lesser helm of stacking allows a spell, power, et cetera to stack with one other instance of itself.

If you remove the helmet, normal stacking rules resume applying, and you only benefit or suffer from the greatest bonus and/or penalty of a given type to a particular statistic (again assuming bonus/penalty types that don't stack).

It does not matter what the source of each bonus is, though one casting of a spell, power, et cetera counts as one bonus. For instance, if you had a +3 enhancement bonus to Strength, a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength, a second +2 enhancement bonus to Strength, and a +1 enhancement bonus to Strength, you could stack the +3 bonus and both of the +2 bonuses, but not the +1 bonus, for a total +7 bonus; as normal, the unapplied bonus would still be present on your character, but would not be allowed to do anything unless and until one of the stronger bonuses expired, was dispelled, was removed, or otherwise went away. Likewise, if you had two +3 insight bonuses to AC, a +2 insight bonus to AC, a +3 deflection bonus to AC, and a +1 deflection bonus to AC, you could stack all of them, so your total bonus to AC would be +12; however, you would not be able to stack a fourth insight bonus to AC, so if a fourth insight bonus were to be applied, the weakest bonus would become inert until one of the bonuses went away.

While you wear this helmet, the normal rules for stacking bonuses are heavily bent; four bonuses being applied to the same statistic that normally could not stack (such as bonuses of the same type) are allowed to stack. You may stack any number of bonuses, as long as no more than four normally non-stacking bonuses (such as bonuses of the same type) applied to the same statistic are stacking; if a fifth bonus of a given non-stacking type is applied to a given statistic, only apply the four greatest bonuses. It does not matter what the source of each bonus is, though one casting of a spell, power, et cetera counts as one bonus. For instance, if you had a +3 enhancement bonus to Strength, a +2 enhancement bonus to Strength, a second +2 enhancement bonus to Strength, and a +1 enhancement bonus to Strength, you could stack all four bonuses, for a total +8 bonus, but you could not stack a fifth enhancement bonus to Strength; if a fifth enhancement bonus to Strength were to be applied, the weakest bonus would become inert until one of the bonuses went away. Likewise, if you had two +3 insight bonuses to AC, a +2 insight bonus to AC, a +3 deflection bonus to AC, and a +1 deflection bonus to AC, you could stack all of them, so your total bonus to AC would be +12.
