Phyllocyte[edit]
Early Development[edit]
The young of this race are grown, rather than born. A shard of living crystal, once planted, begins to grown and develop. The crystal grows in a plantlike fashion, emerging from the ground in four stalks that initially diverge. The natural flora grows around it, climbing its limbs in an ivylike fashion, and is integrated into its mass. The limbs then bow inward to meet at its apex a few feet above the ground, where a bulb forms, hanging from the limbs. This entire process requires the attention of a Shaper, who oversees the nutrition of the seedling and psionically stimulates its healthy development. Without this care, the seed may instead grow into a feral Phyllocyte or never mature at all. When mature, the phyllocyte's eyes open permanently and it uproots itself.
Physical Appearance[edit]
They share the general humanoid form, but are immediately distinguishable by their plantlike qualities. There is a great deal of variation within the species. The shade of their skin ranges from various hues of green and yellow to brown and rarely redish. The texture of their skin ranges from smoothe and veined to rough, sporting thick overlapping leaves or taking the form of tightly interlaced vines. They often have features suggestive of hair, which may may resemble masses of vines and leaves or something more reminiscent of a bed of flowers.
Much of their inner workings - including close analogues to human circulatory, nervous, and skeletal systems - are composed of the unique form of living crystal from which much of their technology is derived. It may be visible in the form of thorns and veins on their skin, running the gamut from subtle detail to ostentatious display. They stimulate and shape the growth of such adornments intentionally for purposes of distinguishing caste, rank, and clan. The crystal comes in darker shades ranging between red, purple and blue.
Their eyes are quite large and jet black - lacking both whites, irises, and even eyelids - and they may have one or more pairs of small, secondary eyes. While they have no distinguishable ears, nose or mouth, they have no difficulty percieving sound or smell, and can "taste" things by touch. They rely almost entirely upon their natural telepathy for communication outside their species, but have their own language which also involves intricate body language and subtle sounds, as of leaves rustling in the wind.

Alien Plant Creature Traits[edit]
Attuned Telepathy[edit]
The aliens can communicate effortlessly with any creature that has a language, so long as it is within 5 squares of them. Beyond that range, the alien must be attuned to the creature. Doing so requires that the creature be within 5 squares for 10 minutes and that the alien concentrate on attunement for this time. An alien may only be attuned to one creature per 3 levels at a time. Once attuned, the alien may communicate with that creature whenever it has line of sight. It may only communicate with one attuned creature in this way each round, but may still speak freely with anyone within 5 squares or within range of hearing by producing an audible voice (unless some other effect would prevent it from doing so).
