Archetypes are additional class abilities that augment and alter your playstyle. These come in point-tree form, allowing you to gain an Archetype ability you are eligible for in place of a Talent; The Archetype abilities share the same Grade system as Talents do, specifying how often you can gain or improve them. There are Archetypes for every class, as well as for every race, and indeed there are some specific to race-class combinations, such as the Webslinger - A Dark Elf who has chosen to be an Infiltrator.

Archetype abilities have special requirements. First, if it wasn't obvious, in order to spend points in an Archetype tree, you must first have at least one level in the corresponding class. Second, you must typically have a certain number of levels, both in the class and overall as a character. Third, each Grade of Archetype ability requires you to have already gained a certain number of abilities from the previous Grade before you gain access to that Grade. Typically this number is five, so for an example, you must have gained at least five Common abilities from an Archetype tree in order to gain the ability to learn any Uncommon abilities.

Archetypes are typically available to only one class or race, but some Archetypes are available to more than one race or class.
