Class Features[edit]

All of the following are class features of the Swiftblade.

Spellcasting: At each level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one arcane spellcasting class before becoming a Swiftblade, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

I Am Speed (Ex): By 1st level, the Swiftblade has cast Haste enough times that the spell has become part of their being. Haste no longer counts against their list of spells known (Allowing them to replace it with another 3rd-level spell from their class spell list when they gain their first level of Swiftblade), is always prepared (Without counting against your number of spells prepared), counts as a Spell-Like Ability when cast, and the Swiftblade can use lesser spell slots to cast it at the cost of a reduced duration, as follows:

  • Haste cast from a 2nd-level spell slot lasts 1 round/2 Caster Levels.
  • Haste cast from a 1st-level spell slot lasts 1 round/4 Caster Levels.
  • Haste cast from a 0th-level spell slot lasts 1 round.

Hastened Blitz (Ex): At 1st level, the Swiftblade has learned how to fully utilize their magical speed in combat. When the Swiftblade utilizes their Spring Attack feat while under the effects of Haste cast by themselves, they can designate 1 creature for every attack they could make during a Full Attack action, including extra attacks from Haste, Cleave, or Two-Weapon Fighting. However, each attack after the first suffers a cumulative -5 penalty to the attack roll.

At 7th level, the cumulative penalty to attack rolls is reduced to -2 per attack. This feature counts as the Bounding Assault and Rapid Blitz feats for the purposes of prerequisites.

Arcane Agility (Ex): At 1st level, the Swiftblade has used speed-enhancing magic to the point that it suffuses them permanently, granting them agility augmented far beyond the norm, causing their movement speeds to increase by 5ft for every 4 caster levels they possess; This bonus to movement speed is doubled while under the effects of a Haste spell cast by themselves. Additionally, the Swiftblade may add 1 point of their spellcasting modifier per class level to their initiative checks, to their Reflex saves, and as a Dodge bonus to their AC when wearing light or no armor, not using a shield, and carrying no more than a light load.

Blurred Alacrity (Ex): At 2nd level, your understanding of the haste spell makes you difficult to target with melee and ranged attacks. While under the effect of a Haste spell that you cast yourself, you gain concealment (20% miss chance). This miss chance increases to 50% at 5th level. If an entity misses a melee attack against you due to this miss chance, they provoke an attack of opportunity from you.

The effect of this ability does not stack with Blur, Displacement, or similar spell effects.

This Nap Has Legs (Ex): At 3rd level, a Swiftblade also rests faster, and is more difficult to tire out. First, they gain the Endurance feat as a bonus feat, even if they don't meet the prerequisites. Second, they are immune to Fatigue, and anything that would normally make them Exhausted, henceforth only makes them Fatigued, bypassing their Fatigue immunity. Finally, the Swiftblade requires 2 fewer hours of rest than normal in order to gain the effects of resting for 8 hours.

Perpetual Options (Ex): At 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th levels, the Swiftblade learns to exploit their Haste spell in new and frightening ways, gaining a Perpetual Option from the list below. Once an Option is chosen, it cannot be changed, nor can individual Options be chosen more than once. Each Perpetual Option allows you to do something new while under the effects of a Haste spell cast by yourself, at the expense of shortening the remaining duration of the current casting of Haste by a number of rounds. You cannot reduce the remaining duration to less than 1 round; If you only have 1 round of duration remaining at the start of your turn, you cannot use a Perpetual Option that round.

  • Swift Surge (Ex): This Swiftblade has learned to move so fast, in short bursts, that the bounds of reality cannot properly contain them. On any round during their turn, while under the effects of a Haste spell cast by themselves, the Swiftblade may choose to use Swift Surge, causing them to forego the movement speed bonus granted by the Haste spell for that round. Instead, the Swiftblade may choose to replace any of their movement, in 5ft increments, with teleportation - Allowing them to teleport up to a maximum of 30ft in a turn. This teleportation must be to an unoccupied space they can see, and must begin and end on a surface that can support their weight. For example, if a Swiftblade's land speed is 50ft, and they choose to use Swift Surge, their land speed doesn't increase to 80ft as it normally would - Instead, they can treat 30ft of their land speed as teleportation, while the remaining 20ft are still land speed.
After teleporting at least 5ft via Swift Surge, the Swiftblade's next melee attack, on a successful hit, deals +1d4 extra Force damage for every 10ft the Swiftblade teleported before the attack. However, this only counts the distance the Swiftblade has teleported since their last attack - Thus, if you teleport 10ft, attack with that +2d4 bonus damage, and then teleport and attack again, the second attack would deal only +2d4 extra damage, not 4d4.
Each time you choose to use Swift Surge, the remaining duration of your current Haste spell is reduced by 1 round.

  • Quick Recovery (Ex): Even your body heals at an accelerated rate. Your natural healing rate doubles (For example, assuming you originally had a normal natural healing rate, you would now regain 2 hit points per character level after 8 hours of rest, or 4 points per character level after 24 hours of bed rest - Likewise, you would be relieved of 2 points of ability score damage per damaged ability score after 8 hours of rest, or 4 points after 24 hours of bed rest).
In addition, at the start of your turn while under the effects of a Haste spell cast by yourself, you can choose to regain hit points equal to 1d6, plus your spellcasting ability modifier (Min 1), at the end of your turn. Doing so reduces the remaining duration of that Haste spell by 1 round.

  • Temporal Backpedal (Ex): You've learned to move so fast that you can partially project yourself forward in time, snapping back to your actual position in reaction to danger. While under the effects of a Haste sell cast by yourself, you can choose to activate this ability as an immediate action upon being subject to a spell, attack, or other source of harm. Doing so allows you to teleport up to 30ft, so long as you teleport to an unoccupied square you have occupied within the last round. If this teleportation removes you from the attack or spell's range/target area, then the effect has an additional 50% miss chance against you, reflecting whether or not you managed to rewind at the right moment to avoid harm. This miss chance stacks with those granted by Blurred Alacrity and Evasive Celerity, but not with Blur, Displacement, or similar spell effects.
Activating Temporal Backpedal reduces the duration of your current Haste spell by 3 rounds. Your Swiftblade class level must be 5th or higher in order to learn this Perpetual Option.

  • Supersonic Charge (Ex): You move so fast that you damage foes with a sonic boom as you pass. While under the effects of a Haste spell cast by yourself, you can choose, a a standard action, to activate Supersonic Charge. This increases the movement speed bonus from Haste to +60ft. Any foe you move within 5ft of during this round will be damaged by a sonic boom, being Deafened for 1d4 rounds and taking 1d6 points of Sonic damage per 2 caster levels you possess, with a Fort save (DC 10 + 1/2 your arcane caster level + your spellcasting ability mod) allowed to negate the Deafening and halve the damage. A target that rolls a natural 1 on their save against this ability is Stunned for 1 round in addition to being deafened and damaged.
Activating Supersonic Charge reduces the duration of your current Haste spell by 2 rounds. Your Swiftblade class level must be 5th or higher in order to learn this Perpetual Option.

  • Abrupt Quickening (Ex): You've learned to use your speed magic to speed up your spellcasting. When casting an Arcane spell while under the effects of a Haste spell cast by yourself, you can choose to Quicken that spell, without requiring a higher-level spell slot or increasing the casting time. Doing so reduces the duration of your current Haste spell by 2 rounds per effective spell level of the spell you choose to Quicken in this way - Thus, Quickening an Empowered Fireball would reduce the duration by 10 rounds, as Fireball is a 3rd-level spell, and Empower Spell requires a spell slot 2 levels higher than normal.
Your Swiftblade class level must be 7th or higher in order to learn this Perpetual Option.

  • Whirlwind of Blades (Ex): You've learned to utilize your Haste better in combat, allowing you to attack with blinding speed. You gain the Whirlwind Attack feat as a bonus feat, even if you don't meet the prerequisites. Additionally, while under the effects of a Haste spell cast by yourself, you gain the following benefits:
  • You may choose to activate this feature as a swift action at the beginning of your turn. If you do so, the penalty for consecutive attacks during a full attack, and during Hastened Blitz, is reduced by 1 for that round. This means you suffer only a -1 penalty for each successive attack during Hastened Blitz, and, assuming you have no similar abilities, that you make attacks at every +4 rather than every +5 with a full attack - Thus, if your attack pattern would ordinarily be +10/+5, then it is now +10/+6/+2 during Haste, granting you an additional attack. This stacks with the additional attack already granted by Haste.
Activating Whirlwind of Blades in this manner reduces the duration of your current Haste spell by 2 rounds.
  • You may choose to make a single attack at your highest base attack bonus as a Swift Action. Doing so reduces the duration of your current Haste spell by 2 rounds.
  • When using Hastened Blitz, you may choose to replace any of those individual attacks with a Whirlwind Attack. Doing so reduces the duration of your current Haste spell by 2 rounds.
Your Swiftblade class level must be 7th or higher in order to learn this Perpetual Option.

  • Limitless Action (Ex): You can perform even more actions with the haste spell. When you activate this ability, you lose the extra attack granted by the Haste spell. Instead, you now have the choice of making one extra move action or one extra standard action. For example, you could make three consecutive move actions with this ability, two move actions and one standard action, one move action and two standard actions, a full attack action and a move action, a full attack action and a standard action, a full round action and a move action, or a full round action and a standard action.
Activating Limitless Action reduces the duration of your current Haste spell by 4 rounds. Your Swiftblade class level must be 9th or higher in order to learn this Perpetual Option.

  • Stolen Alacrity (Ex): You have learned how to siphon speed from those you attack. As a full round action, you can make a single melee attack against a creature that poses a direct and immediate threat to you and/or your allies. If the attack hits, the target is Slowed for 1 round (No save), and you gain the benefits of the Haste spell, as if cast by yourself, until the end of your next turn.
This ability grows stronger when you activate it while under the effects of a Haste spell cast by yourself. If the attack misses, you reduce the remaining duration of your Haste spell to 1 round, or end the Haste effect entirely if the remaining duration was 1 round or less. If the attack is successful, the target takes 2d6 additional Force damage, and you extend the duration of your current Haste spell, and the duration of the target's Slow, by 2d6 rounds.
Your Swiftblade class level must be 9th or higher in order to learn this Perpetual Option.

Impromptu Haste (Ex): Starting at 4th level, Haste has become even more engrained in your being. When you cast Haste, it is considered a Supernatural Ability. You can cast Haste once per day without expending a spell slot. Additionally, you can choose to Quicken the casting of your Haste spell, at any time, at no extra cost to you.

Evasive Celerity (Ex): At 5th level, your speed makes you difficult to target with spells. While under the effect of a haste spell that you cast yourself, individually targeted spells have a 20% chance of failing against you; The effect of this ability does not stack with Blur, Displacement, or similar spell effects. At 9th level, this miss chance improves to 50%.

Additionally, you gain Evasion. While under the effect of a haste spell that you cast yourself, this temporarily evolves into Improved Evasion. At 9th level, you permanently gain Improved Evasion.

Fortified Hustle (Ex): At 6th level, you learn how to intuitively absorb the haste spell into your body. When you cast Haste, it no counts as an Extraordinary ability. Additionally, while under the effects of a Haste spell cast by yourself, you gain DR 5/-.

Diligent Rapidity (Ex): At 8th level, you automatically overcome magic and mundane obstacles with the Haste spell. While under the effect of a Haste spell that you cast yourself, you can move and attack normally, even under the influence of magic that usually impedes movement, as the Freedom of Movement spell.

As an additional effect, you can also move across the surface of placid or flowing water, but not whitewater rapids or stormy water, by making two move actions in a round. You immediately sink any time you make a single move action in a round or come to a complete stop while traversing water.

The Meaning Of Haste (Ex): At 10th level, your mastery of the haste spell can bring the world around you to a standstill. Any time you cast an unmodified Haste spell from a spell slot of 6th or higher level, you can forego the normal effects of the spell in order to replicate the effects of the Time Stop spell, with a duration of 1 round, plus 1 round for every spell slot level above 6th that was used to cast it. You cannot use this ability again until the previous casting ends, nor can you use a metamagically-altered version of Haste to activate this feature.
