User talk:ThunderGod Cid/Ethergaunt
Cool[edit]
I've always been interested in Ethergaunts. This is pretty cool.
However, I thought (just pulling this out of my ass) that each of the three types of Ethergaunt specialized differently. One was arcane casting, one was divine (I think), and one was something else. Is this right or am I B.S.-ing myself?
- It was mostly social class, though they did have particularies about each. Reds were the warriors, whites were the ambassidors, and blacks were the leaders. What powers each had escapes me at this time without my books on hand. -- Eiji Hyrule 04:03, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
- Eiji is correct in that they all have certain social statuses, and while their abilities are all basically the same they are dramatically increased with each caste. All ethergaunts from the Fiend Folio have the ability to ignore the effects of arcane spells (up to 2nd level for reds, 4th level for whites, and 6th level for blacks). They also cast spells as wizards of a level equal to their CR (5 for reds, 11 for whites, and 17 for blacks), which influenced the HD at which each new level is attained in this version. Of course, most of these abilities were a little over-the-top for an LA +0 race, so they were not included. The class is, however, tailored to play a wizard, so I think it would be pretty easy to replicate most of its other abilities. I'm going to try and include these abilities in a racial paragon class, but as it stands the only real difference between the colors is their social standing and personal power. Their abilities essentially remain the same. - TG Cid 11:54, June 24, 2010 (UTC)
Gaze of questionable usage[edit]
"Orifice Horror (Ex): An ethergaunt may open its mask as a standard action, striking dumb an opponent that it looks upon. This ability is a gaze attack that forces opponents to make a Will save (DC 10 + ½ ethergaunt’s HD + its Intelligence modifier) or take 1d4 points of Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma damage. Once a target is affected (whether the save is successful or not), they cannot be affected by the ethergaunt’s gaze attack for the rest of the current encounter. Use of this ability counts as one round of exposure to the present atmosphere. An ethergaunt is immune to its own gaze and those of others of its kind." 1) How long is an encounter? 2) What's the range on this ability?Fluffykittens (talk) 11:01, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
