Nocturnus Vampire[edit]
The nocturnus is an ancient kind of vampire, nigh extinct by modern days. These ancient vampires were actually considered a little weaker than their modern cousin, who developed additional powers. However the nocturnus predates a lot of the modern vampire's weaknesses, only sharing the vampire's dire weakness to sunlight. A nocturnus also lacks a tomb or coffin, making them more vulnerable upon defeat, but they also easily regenerate lost limbs.
Creating a Nocturnus[edit]
“Nocturnus” is an acquired template that can be added to any Vampire upon its creation.
Ability Scores: Same as a typical vampire.
Size and Type: Same as a typical vampire.
Feat: Same as a typical vampire.
Skills: Same as a typical vampire.
Saving Throw: Same as a typical vampire.
Special Attacks: A nocturnus lacks the Children of the Night special attack.
Special Qualities: A nocturnus lacks the Alternate Form and Fast Healing special quality of a typical vampire. A nocturnus vampire has the following special quality:
Undying (Ex): A nocturnus possesses Fast Healing 5. If a nocturnus loses a limb or body part except its head, the lost portion regrows in 1d4 hours. The nocturnus can reattach the severed member instantly by holding it to the stump. If a nocturnus is brought to 0 hit or lower or is decapitated it becomes inert until it can heal (see Nocturnus Weakness below). If a limb is severed, each round it 'crawl' toward the nocturnes 5 ft at the start of each turn. When the limb is adjacent to the nocturnus it automatically reattaches.
Challenge Rating: +0
Noctunus Weakness[edit]
Unlike a traditional vampire, a nocturnus has no weakness except sunlight. They are not repelled by holy symbols, can freely move across running water and enter a home unimpeded. A nocturnus has the same extreme vulnerability to sunlight as a vampire.
Sunlight: If a nocturnus is exposed to direct sunlight she become staggered for 1 round. On the second round of consecutive sunlight exposure the nocturnus is destroyed. If a nocturnus is partially exposed to direct sunlight she is also staggered, and any limbs exposed on the second consecutive round crumbles to ashes. This happens immediately to any severed limbs exposed to sunlight.
Slaying a Nocturnus: Once a nocturnus is decapitated or brought below 0 hit point, it becomes inert and unmoving. An inert nocturnus heals 5 hit points per round, regaining its ability to act once its hit point increases above 0. A decapitated nocturnus stays inert until the head is re-attached to the stump, at which point the nocturnus awakens at 1 hit point. If an inert nocturnus is staked through the heart it stops healing and will remain inert until the stake is removed and it is allowed to heal again. Exposing the body to sunlight or obliterating the head destroys the Nocturnus for good.
