Parasites live in or on other organisms, feeding upon them in some manner, yet returning little or nothing. Common parasites are usually just nuisances, though they can cause complications; they are easily killed by a ''[[SRD:Remove Disease|remove disease]]'' spell. The bloodring parasite, however, is one of an uncommon and unusual kind of parasite.

True to its name, it takes on the appearance of a ring and drains blood from those who wear it.  Most of the energy drained goes to fueling its unusually high magic resistance, which it then confers some upon its wearer.  When worn, it takes up a ring slot and is considered a magic item for the purposes of targeting it and it's AC.
