:: FWIW, armor check penalty does not stack with the penalties from encumberance. Never has. And even if it did, it isn't a big deal since there are people who willingly take -10 with a tower shield. With that said, I'm not seeing this as worth a bonus feat yet. If you reduced base speed by 1/3 (so humans would have 20' move speed, and then if they wore medium or heavy armor on top of that it would be reduced to 15'), then I could see it, but as it is it seems like just a bonus feat for anyone who plans on wearing armor anyhow. --[[User:Ghostwheel|Ghostwheel]] ([[User talk:Ghostwheel|talk]]) 21:30, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

The flaw isn't all that meaningful to someone who plans on wearing medium or heavy armor anyhow.

I've never really been a fan of the Flaw system. That said, this provides some set penalties (permanent Max Dex, check penalties) and situational DM counters that should work well to offset getting an additional feat... all while providing players some incentive to work around their character's deficiencies, you know, roleplaying.

Encumbrance

It doesn't actually add to the amount of stuff you are carrying, so the encumbrance doesn't hurt you at all if you are really carrying a medium or heavy load? Why would a Dwarf choose not to take this flaw? --Foxwarrior 20:52, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

For the same reason a cavalrist wouldn't choose not to take this flaw. And while this flaw will not affect a dwarf's speed, the dwarf's own racial features already take care of that. With a medium load comes a maximum Dexterity bonus to armor class, and an armor check penalty of -3, that applies to almost every Strength and Dexterity related Skill. --Sulacu 21:18, 26 March 2011 (UTC)

Penalty[edit]

If a character is already in medium or heavy armor, does this flaw do anything beyond the penalty to strenuous actions? --Ghostwheel (talk) 17:03, 16 December 2015 (UTC)

Yes. See Carrying Capacity. A medium load and medium armor are two different things. For one, if you wear medium or heavy armor, your speed goes down from 20 to 15 feet (unless you're a dwarf, I guess). More importantly, though, armor check penalty is cumulative. For one, with a forced medium load you'll always have a base acp of -3. So that's a -3 inherent penalty to all skills that apply acp and a -6 to swim. I think it is fair. --Sulacu (talk) 21:20, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
FWIW, armor check penalty does not stack with the penalties from encumberance. --Ghostwheel (talk) 21:30, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
Alright, lemme just take the Slow flaw and get on a horse. Flaws are and have always been taken by characters that rarely or never encounter the drawbacks. If you're not prepared for this to happen then don't allow flaws in your game. That said, I suppose I know of a way to compound the effects of the flaw.
Also, don't be so quick to dole out an oppose if the worst you can say about an article is 'isn't all that meaningful'.--Sulacu (talk) 21:39, 16 December 2015 (UTC)
