You take a -2 penalty if your appearance clashes with the crowd in general, and a +2 bonus if your appearance is very close to those in the crowd. If the crowd is dense enough to pose difficult terrain, you get a +4 bonus on your Hide check.
As a benefit, you never face difficult terrain from crowds or other large gatherings of creatures.
