The art of the Other Memory is a dangerous one. Sometimes one forgets the experiences aren't yours. Sometimes you forget who you are. The lucky ones remain lost. The unfortunate ones come back not themselves.
You touch upon the genetic memory of a creature, obtaining only events which have made a mark upon their lives. A willing, helpless, or a recently slain creature who has not yet succumb to rot are valid targets as you read the primal imprints of their mind. You gain a memory which was of great importance to the creature in question. If you know roughly what you are looking for you can try and recall a specific memory, otherwise the memory is random but always important to the target, such as a life changing experience. You can typically exclude known memories they may possess so you don't always obtain their death throes.
If used on non-sapient creatures you obtain vague and hazy primal memories without much detail. It cannot be used on mindless or inorganic creatures.
Alternatively you can use it upon yourself, in which case you instead open your mind to the genetic memory of all living beings throughout history. This deep searching gives great insight and knowledge and while no specific memory is recalled you are capable of making Knowledge checks with any subject even without ranks with a +3 profane bonus to the check, as you are drawing on knowledge not your own. This takes 10 minutes of focus. You can retain your focus another 10 minutes to reroll your check with a stacking +3 profane bonus on each additional attempt until you are satisfied, or you reach your mindbreak limit after which you immediately mindbreak (and the power ends) after obtaining your new answer.
By inquiring about an object, this power can duplicate identify with an appropriate Knowledge DC of 10 + the item's caster level.
Experiencing memories not your own muddles the brain, invoking madness in the user.
Madness Cost: 1. However for every 10 minutes spent meditating add +1, to a maximum of your mindbreak limit.
Augment: For 2 additional power points, you may use this on an unwilling target.
For every 2 additional power points, the personal version of this power increases the initial bonus to knowledge checks by +1. The increase from multiple rounds of focus remains at +3.
For every 2 power points spent on any augmentation or by itself, this power’s save DC increases by 1.
