Skills and Saves[edit]
A pig's 4 skill points (for being a 1 HD animal) are split between its Spot and Survival skills. A pig gains a +2 racial bonus to Listen and Spot as well as a +4 racial bonus to Survival. These bonuses are represented in the stat block above.
A pig has good Fortitude and Will saves.
Strategies and Tactics[edit]
Pigs generally won't attack unless provoked or desperate. Their bites are just powerful enough to be threatening to commoners.
Pigs encountered in the wild are generally alone though they may travel in small herds of 5-8 (1d4+4) adults (including an advanced male) and twice as many again piglets.
Pig Ecology[edit]
A pig is a domesticated variety of the boar. These stout omnivores are capable foragers. Typically farmed for meat, pigs are also often set wild by frontier settlers to fend for themselves and reproduce in the wild with the intent of recapture and harvest later. Pigs in the wild often interbreed with wild boars. These hybrid offspring are treated as boars.
Though their sizes vary greatly depending on breed, an average pig is roughly 4'6" long and weighs around 440 lbs.
A pig can be traded as a commodity and is worth 3 gp.
Pig Animal Companions[edit]
Pigs make adequate starting animal companions with their robust health and Scent ability.
