Another way to make death more urgent and disheartening is simply to say that spells which raise the dead have a limited time period on which they work and only function on a body that is mostly in tact. *Eliminate the ''Reincarnation'' and similar spells altogether and make .*Make ''Raise Dead'' only function if cast within an amount of time equal to 1 round per caster level within of the target's death while .*Make ''Resurrection'' functions only function if cast within 10 minutes per caster level of the target's death and .*Make all greater resurrect effects which resurrect a target must be done only function if cast within 1 day per caster level of the target's death. :'''Note:''' Some spells take more than 1 round to cast so remember that this means you must ''begin'' casting the spell within this time frame. If a resurrection effect is done outside these time constraints you can rule that they do not work or that they only bring the target back for a temporary amount of time which is either very limited (same durations as above) or can never be repeated on the same target. You could also say that bodies which are damaged too severely must be rebuilt by adding artificial limbs and organs either through modern science or magical prosthetics. Creating such things would either require the casting of a ''Regeneration'' spell on a body before any raising could be done or the ability to craft such devices or constructs. Such practices would either use the d20 Modern rules for cybernetic implants, the 3.0 rules for half-constructs, 3.5 rules for living constructs, or custom rules.
