As an Onix grows old and large, the long exposure to intense pressure and magic of the depths hardens its body and its resolve. Eventually, an Onix's body becomes harder than diamond, and takes on a mirror-like sheen. The Onix has become a Steelix, and no longer has to give a damn about just about anything.
Combat[edit]
Tactics Round-by-Round:
Steelix have similar tactics to Onix.
- Round 1: Burst out of the ground and Screech.
- Round 2: Bite something.
- Round 3: Screech.
- Round 4: Bite Something...
Screech (Su): At will, a Steelix can emit a powerful sonic scream. This acts as a greater shout, caster level equal to its Hit Dice. The save is Charisma based.
- The sample Steelix has a caster level of 24 for Screech, and the save DC is 19.
Spell-like Abilities (Sp): 1/day - earthquake, whirlwind, wall of stone, stone shape. Caster level is equal to its hit dice. The saves are Charisma based.
- The sample Steelix has a caster level of 24 for its Spell-like Abilities, and the save DC is 11 + spell level.
Rage (Ex): An Steelix can Rage, as a Barbarian of a level equal to its hit dice.
Spell Resistance (Ex): A Steelix has Spell Resistance equal to its Hit Dice plus 5.
Crush (Ex): A Steelix can crush opponents at least 3 sizes smaller than itself. Any such unfortunate creatures inside its facing at the conclusion of its movement must make a Reflex save (DC 10 +1/2 HD + Con Modifier) or become pinned automatically and suffer 2d8+Strength Modifier in bludgeoning damage. Thereafter, if the Steelix wants to maintain its pin, treat it as a normal grapple.
- The sample Steelix has a save DC of 30 for its Crush, inflicts 2d8+15 damage and has a grapple bonus of +32.
