Nico Robin is an awesome character. Unfortunately, her powers are plenty OP in-universe already.
Add to that the compulsive need to optimize that most players bring to the table, and this stops being fun for anyone involved. Shame, too, because if you can make this work I would favor it immediately. |

Limb granting abilities can be fun, but the whole "[normal limb number times] three times your character level" becomes broken fast. Then Unlimited Limb Chains compounds this break shattering this class.
On top of all that they can sprout parts onto opponents. And it is a Will save, which severely hampers combat classes. |
Tentacle Rape
So if I have a tentacle, I can sprout a few hundred tentacles all over my body at the start of my adventuring day and give up my standard action to make a few hundred attacks? There should probably be a limit to the number of actively sprouted body parts (unless you want everyone that takes this class to be a Hecatoncheires). --Aarnott 17:28, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- Sure you can do that, but when the level 5 Wizard uses Burning Hands on you, you'll still lose hundreds of hit points as all of your tentacles burn to ash. --Foxwarrior 19:19, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- Meh. It trivializes most encounters by virtue of arbitrarily large amounts of damage. Just because it has a huge fatal flaw doesn't make it balanced. The idea is very cool, it is just left a little too open to abuse. --Aarnott 19:52, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- This is Wizard level, and you can't charge while doing it. Really, killing everything you touch isn't all that far beyond what other people can do. --Foxwarrior 20:52, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
- /me casts Blood Wind on the Body Sprouter.
- BOOM. --Ghostwheel 21:24, 10 November 2010 (UTC)
Borrowing Characters[edit]
Why no save or willing requirement for the sprouter to put their limbs on other people and attended objects? - Tarkisflux Talk 23:28, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- How about attacks of opportunity? --Foxwarrior 00:36, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- Could work, but it's still possible to sprout more parts on a target than they have attacks of opportunity since there's no limit to the number of parts per space / object. And even if there was a limit that kept it in line with AoOs it's not particularly effective if the target isn't currently wielding something that they could take advantage of the AoOs with. I guess the question should have been if the intent was for the sprouter to sprout from people or the floor/walls more often? - Tarkisflux Talk 03:03, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
- Well, the primary source material character tended to disable small armies by grappling them from their backs, but actually a save would work better for fighting mooks than AoO provocation. --Foxwarrior 03:16, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
A Five Level-long Base Class?[edit]
Generally short classes are the domain of prestige. Is there a reason it is so short? Or should it become a prestige class.--Franken Kesey (talk) 17:28, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
- It should work well as the first five levels you ever get. The class features are designed to work reasonably well when multiclassed, and there's only so much you can do with sprouting limbs at Very High balance. --Foxwarrior (talk) 18:03, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
