Pointing It Out[edit]

So the bonus to Dexterity is untyped, making it stackable with every other? That could do since it's only +2, the price is high, and the wearer has to deal with wearing the pointy ears, I guess... -HarrowedMind (talk) 15:16, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Good catch. This is a significantly older item, hence both the error, on the part of me being young and unlearned, and the high price, on the part of me being young and foolish and attempted to use SRD guidelines for magic item pricing. The combining on a variety of different effects into a single item has a multiplicative effect on price, which probably explains what's going on here. I'll re-examine it later today and see roughly where it out to belong within the CWBL scheme. -- Jota (talk) 15:30, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
I need to be more active, so here goes. I don't really care about it staying faithful to the source material, but it would be nice if it were either available at lower levels (3-5 when characters really start getting magic items), come in a cheap basic and expensive expanded form or scale with the HD of the wearer. Here's what I'm thinking. If you go the early purchase route, +2 enhancement Dexterity is fine, but either trim off the land speed to +10 (still a pretty darn good bonus) or make the bonus bigger or something when taking a double move or Run action. Something to allow you to run farther without fatigue or use Dex instead of Con to keep running as such would be a nice touch (since overland movement is implied in the flavor). The jump bonus should be parred down a bit too if it's made cheaper, or heck, made into a re-roll (sure, you would't be able to jump better, but you'd fail less, and would be more likely to use the skill because of it.)
Scaling with HD would be nice, since it would allow incentive to keep the thing around at all levels of play, you'd just have to design it so that it doesn't become a "must buy" at higher levels because of it's relative cheapness. By scaling, you could do +10 feet enhancement bonus every 5 HD or so and +2 enhancement to Dexterity every... whatever the standard calculation is, I forget, but probably set a little bit behind, because as I mentioned, cheapness at higher levels compared to other level-appropriate purchases. Hope this has been somewhat helpful. --Ganteka Future (talk) 21:28, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
The only think about scaling magic items is that they don't really fit well within within the existing framework in that they can be difficult to price. I like the idea and some patches to 3.5e suggest just the same, but I feel it would be better to make that a separate item or a sidebar type deal. Like I say, the price is an artifact left over from following the SRD guidelines, so if the item is acceptable at levels 3-5 in it's current state, then it merely requires an alteration in price, rather than one in function. If +30' to BLS is too much then yes, changes can be made. I like your idea for amplifying the bonus with the action committed to running, though I'm less inclined toward the other ideas. I will think about this more. -- Jota (talk) 22:20, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Late to the party. Is 28k really the reduced price or was that pending? -- Eiji-kun (talk) 05:22, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
