Balance Level[edit]

this can't be rogue level. this is almost as powerful as a rougue/fighter gestalt. this class is full of awesome abilities, like doubling SS dice. thats just crazy.--NameViolation 20:07, October 27, 2009 (UTC)

You'll notice a few things:
  • The class has no way on its own of rendering foes flatfooted (unlike the Ninja for example, which can go invisible for a round or three).
  • Doubling damage is only on the first strike. Rogues and the like live and die by the amount of attacks they make per round, and that just allows one to make it as though one hit twice in one go.
  • They only have a way of denying an opponent dex to AC against all their attacks at level 18, when many creatures have True Seeing/Tremorsense/Blindsight/etc. Even improved feint (or the Invisible Blade feint as a free action ability) can only be used once per round.
Now sure, doubling damage at 4th level does make it a nice dip class, but it's not all that powerful, and alone you don't have a way of denying foes dex to AC easily. --Ghostwheel 20:21, October 27, 2009 (UTC)
oh please, we all know there are a million ways to keep an opponent from having a dex mod. have the caster slap a greater invis on you, a rogues blade, ring of blinking, or taking a ambush feat to stun/blind. Now i'm not saying this class is wizard power by any means, but its above a standard rogue imho. --NameViolation 19:47, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
But since there is no balance point between Rogue and Wizard, you have to use the closest approximation (which, since it falls short of wizard-ness as you just said, has to be rogue). - TG Cid 21:17, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

It's got a bunch of neat class abilities at levels 1-4, and I like to dip this class frequently. Too bad the later levels aren't as exciting.

Martial Commando[edit]

This is an interesting class. I couldn't help but think about how it would interact or synergize with certain maneuvers and disciplines, and I have to wonder: if one were to make an alt class feature to add maneuvers, how, and what would you take away?

One nitpick I discovered though: Apparently, or at least on the Ninja, Sudden Strike simply doesn't work with non-lethal. Ever. Unlike Sneak Attack where a nonlethal weapon can make a nonlethal sneak attack, sudden strike doesn't seem to have this ability. This unfortunately clashes with how the class suggests its main source of bonus damage with its ability to go non-lethal. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 05:47, 4 September 2019 (MDT)
