Talk:Draconic Kobold (3.5e Template)

Basically I wanted to make a weaker version of Half-Dragon. Is this too much/too little for +1 LA? I am not sure how OP an energy immunity is.

Also, would it legaly be a bad idea to list non SRD dragon types and their energy immunities? The Dire Reverend 16:32, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Energy immunity's not so bad in my opinion, but I don't think this is worth the +2 LA. That's a big, big deal to lose. Given how this template is totally restricted to kobolds I'm tempted to say that it should be a racial paragon class instead of a template. The +2 Strength and Constitution are probably stats that will be totally neglected by a kobold character anyway, since I believe kobolds are used to get a Small-sized sorcerer than anything else. That having been said, the +2 LA potentially prevents the kobold from getting a spell level, while a racial paragon class would be able to give spell advancement and perhaps even more of the things that made the traditional half-dragon cool.
Secondly, I would refrain from mentioning the names of specific dragons just to be safe. You can be just as expansive (if not more so) by simply saying that you are immune to the energy type of your selected dragon. There are only a few instances where I can see this being problematic, which are the shadow dragon (immunity to level drain) and the fang dragon (immunity to Con damage). Dragons that use force breath weapons are also potentially troublesome. But those aren't really things that can be fixed by anything you can do short of omitting them from the possible draconic ancestors. - TG Cid 17:20, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
That was a typo. It should say +1. Is it more balanced with just one la? Should I add more? As for the special dragons, I'll just state you can choose any dragon that is immune to an energy type. The Dire Reverend 04:34, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
The Racial Paragon idea is a good one. Also, why aren't there any ability score bonuses, even small? And about force dragons: it might not be that big of a problem, since Force Dragons only get a +4 to saves against Force effects, and not complete immunity. -HarrowedMind 23:44, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
I don't want to specifically mention the force dragon for legal reasons. As for the ability bonuses, I had +2 to Str and Con, leaving the kobold with only -2 to Str for penalties. Apparently when I edited it recently I accidently removed that bit. The Dire Reverend 02:44, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
It's not illegal to mention the force dragon. Surgo 04:36, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
Surgo's right; the force dragon is an SRD product that can be found on this wiki. So is the prismatic dragon. - TG Cid 01:26, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Even mentioning one that is not in the SRD is fine. Like emerald dragons. --Aarnott 15:35, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
