Power isn't really an issue given that this has been discussed repeatedly and demonstrated to be Very High level in many situations (despite the questionable validity of the SGT, I suppose). What I do have beef with is the completely lame alignment restrictions, dead levels, and absolute one-trick pony nature of the class. He only ever does one thing, which is generally completely uncounterable short of stabbing him in the face. Can't really say that appeals to me very much.

Although at first glance this looks like a monk-level class, subjecting it to a brief SGT reveals that it's a solid Wizard-level archer class. Coming to this realization made me cackle madly. The number of things this creature can do with a burrow speed and a pegasus is absolutely wonderful.

Wizard Level?[edit]

I... I'm not seeing it. Are you aware of something I'm not Fox? -- Eiji-kun 07:57, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

We ran the SGT on it in the chat. It very soundly beat almost everything. --Undead_Knave 08:14, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
But... how? It's a non-touch attack warlock with monk-like features. It doesn't naturally fly or have any unusual immunities. It's features are basically "DR bypassing blast" and "fast". -- Eiji-kun 08:52, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
Also "shoot through walls", "automatically target the square of anything within 10 ft per level as long as you can specify it in some way", "ignore armor bonuses", "ignore incorporeality, damage reduction, hardness, regeneration, etcetera." --Foxwarrior 08:57, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
Don't forget the range and mobility. For teh lulz add in a burrow speed. --Ghostwheel 09:12, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
I accounted for that. It just seems like basing a class around magic missile. You have something really reliable, but not too powerful and, well, very much a one trick pony. I just don't see how he gets around the various problems the SGT has.
The burrow speed trick is nice, though more of a synergistic benefit, you don't obtain that via class (and burrow speeds are a little hard to come by, it's not a common movement type). I feel I could duplicate everything this class has to offer with a sorcerer with one spell and one feat (Transdimensional spell). -- Eiji-kun 10:03, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
As an aside, there's a very easy way to get a burrow speed - Mineral Warrior template. That said, we went through the cases one by one and the jade archer beat most of them without a problem taking into account level-equivalent equipment and gear. --Ghostwheel 11:05, 20 February 2012 (UTC)
The automatic x8 crit threats and high magic resist also help. 173.60.88.95 18:16, 22 February 2012 (UTC)
I don't see the auto x8 crit part, where is it? The SR is a... ok benefit. I find it is a double edged sword. -- Eiji-kun 01:12, 28 February 2012 (UTC)
I think it's a reference to this bit: "This arrow deals 1d6 damage and has an x3 critical multiplier regardless of the size and type of the bow it is launched from, automatically threatens a critical hit, and needs only to strike it's target to deal damage." I think the implication is that the arrow always hits, and that you're only rolling for critical confirmation. Which isn't an automatic critical hit, just an automatic threat, and even then it's not all that great for damage. You get 1 of them per round, and even though you're attacks are basically touch attacks with it you can still not crit with that low BAB. It's probably only averaging a crit every other round, and so really only matters when you can block yourself off from the enemy for long enough to make that add up (which other class features allow you to do). It's a bit underwhelming for wizard level I think, but the defensive potential is a bit higher than normal for rogue. So... yeah. - Tarkisflux Talk 23:04, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
