Vow Suggestions[edit]

Any ideas for templar vows, whether it be ideas for vow powers currently in the page or new vow concepts altogether, would be much appreciated. We're pretty willing to stretch what aspirations a person can swear to (case-in point, Vow of Taint), but preferably nothing too silly. - TG Cid 03:58, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Vow of Chaos[edit]

You swore a vow to being chaotic?!? How does that even work?" "Giant Frog.
  • First: You gain immunity to any transmutation effect that works directly upon you do not want to be affected by. You could chose to ignore baleful polymorph or reduce person, for example, but could not stop an entangle or wood warp from affecting an item you hold.
  • Second: Once per day, you may take your turn back after it is finished and restart from the beginning of your turn. You may only do this if the next unit has not yet taken their turn. Your character knows anything they learned in this turn.
  • Third: You gain DR/5 Chaotic and you may make any weapon, natural weapon, or unarmed attack from yourself Anarchic as a free action.

Roleplaying Ideas: For some, there is a method to madness. To combat law, to combat the fates set down by angelic judges, heartless machines, and hellish devils, a random, unpredictable path must be set. For others, there is no method to madness, but there may be a lot of giggling. Or giant frogs. Whatever.

Here's an idea I had. Dunno much about the Tome of Prowess balance point, and the ideas a bit.. Odd. But, I hope it gives you a chuckle, at least. The 42nd Gecko 03:00, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Two years later, this inspires ideas of a Vow of Independence or Vow of Self-Determination. Something that has the same notion of "no one can tell me what to do" but without the alignment-related connotations of Chaos. - TG Cid (talk) 22:01, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Comments[edit]

Silence Comments[edit]

Not sure I like this direction for silence. It's functional (if reminiscent of the knight's mechanic), but it seems odd to me that taking a vow of personal silence lets you inflict that on others and then punish them for not following along. This one might be better as a utility vow instead, letting them do all spells as silent spells and granting telepathy at higher levels or whatever. - Tarkisflux Talk 20:28, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Fair enough, I can get behind it being a utility vow. I'll probably use those two suggestions and see what else I can come up with. - TG Cid (talk) 21:08, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
Revenge Comments[edit]

Having re-read vision again, I think it's not a great fit. Maybe just a regular scrying or clairvoyance (ignoring standard range) instead. And if we're going with the hunt mechanic, we should probably maybe build in some fluff limiters. Like you can't declare a new hunt until you have had your vengeance (intentionally open for interpretation) on the target of your hunt or something. - Tarkisflux Talk 20:28, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

This is probably necessary, yes. I feel like with the once per day limitation, we have also allowed the possibility for a situation in which you can give up at the end of the day and declare a new hunt at the beginning of the next one. That way you aren't mechanically bound to keep hunting down the same person until you have caught them. - TG Cid (talk) 21:37, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Surveillance[edit]

Additional Name Possibilities: Oversight, Supervision, Voyeurism (just kidding on that one)

This seems legit, looking forward to seeing what else we can think of. - TG Cid (talk) 21:37, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Modernity[edit]

You'd be surprised at how many monsters, particularly Magical Beasts, have innately low intelligence. This basically turns you into a slaughter machine with a damage mod that approaches and exceeds the triple digits on some monsters. LenKagetsu (talk) 16:19, 16 March 2015 (UTC)

Are you referring to one of the previous drafts that was also contingent on the difference between their Int score and 10? If so, I was already convinced to edit that out, and now it's only a damage bonus if it's under 10. Yeah, it can still get pretty big, but the absolute maximum bonus per attack is 20 + your Cha mod. Assuming you buff it appropriately via Tomes and what have you, it's probably about +12 by level 20, so the biggest bonus thus achievable is +32 damage per attack. If it's just the total bonus damage over all attacks reaching triple digits, I am not too concerned about that, but I think the problem you are pointing out has already been rectified. Thanks for noticing, though, and if I missed something please let me hear it. - TG Cid (talk) 00:14, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
