Finally, masterwork actually means something.

I really want to like this; it's creative, does cool stuff, and lets mundanes have nice things. But the pricing formula is waaaay beyond ridiculous. If you don't want things to have more than a certain amount of tiers, just cap it instead of having a ludicrous exponential cost scale.

As I often say, mundanes should have nice things. This allows mundane crafters to make great things. Good work.

Comments[edit]

It doesn't seem that very many of the weapon abilities are good for ranged weapons. Maybe add something that increases range? Also can I create masterwork arrows in this variant? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.242.124.71 (talkcontribs) at

Do you have any suggestions for things of similar power that would apply to ranged weaponry? And I don't see a problem with masterwork arrows, just divide the cost by 50 per arrow. --Ghostwheel (talk) 14:56, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
I've actually got some ideas for ranged weapons and for ammunition. I would say maybe do away with composite bows as their own thing and just make Composite (+1-2 Str) one of the features. Barbed arrows are a possibility (though Jagged might be essentially the same thing), as are some of the tradional D&D arrow types (flight and sheaf). Increased range is a definite possibility. Maybe Forceful (On 20, knocks opponents back 5 or 10 feet if they fail a Reflex Save DC 10+Weapon Tier+Strength modifier (or other damage modifier). -TheDarkest 02:10 AM, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
I really like this, but the only one that doesn't quite make sense is the raging quality. All the other stuff I can see having some mundane mechanical reason for doing what it does, but I don't get why a mundane weapon suddenly gets better when you rage. Just a minor quibble, really, as all of this looks good; can't wait to see some additions.Spanambula (talk) 08:37, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
Being the one behind that (its on the original too) the answer is "because its fun".
But if you need a fluff reason... the weapon's balance suits itself to reckless swings over attempts at precision. -- Eiji-kun (talk) 08:42, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
Ok, fine, but here I'm doing math now, and say I want a breastplate with 5 masterwork qualities. Tricky, but hey, who doesn't want a really useful breastplate? That will be.... yes, 983,240 gp. So I'll pick that up and pay for the breastplate once I reach Epic levels, I guess... Spanambula (talk) 08:56, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
I would suggest than on the weapon quality Armor Piercing you reword it to include bypassing 2 points of hardness as well as 2 points of DR. This would make it more useful against objects.

Rewording[edit]

I did a bit of rewording, so you'll need to make sure I got your intention correct with the mechanics. --Aarnott (talk) 14:24, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
