How did I not rate this?
It's a rambling one for sure, and several others already brought out the big stinkers but I feel as if I need to bold and underline the insanity of Wish at will. XP costs can be mitigated, especially at the level you will likely find this, and I don't think it helps any. The Monado is definitely a major artifact, though given how massive a plot device it is I am not sure it has a function outside of an entire plot based on this McGuffain. |

Very faithful, just need to be careful how it's introduced in a campaign and I see no issues. I like it |

So as much as I loved Xenoblade I think the real problem here is too much faithfulness to the source material. The Monado makes sense as a weapon for a chosen one to use and provides bonuses geared towards the story, such as its bonuses vs. constructs. Solo campaigns happen but they aren't the norm so giving one person the super god killer sword with a ton of bonuses and leaving the rest of the party isn't fair. The mechanical bonuses themselves are very close to the ones originally used in the game but the game is not D&D. Immediate action to resist anything as long as the CR of what your defending against is equal or less than your level once per 1d6 rounds for example. Shield was a great mechanic for blocking something in a game that revolves around reacting appropriately but in D&D it's kind of annoying to track as a player and doesn't really balance in a party. And every ability is like this. |

Just finished reading this one out loud. Only took 17 minutes to do so. So, here's what I've got to say about this: No one will ever or should ever use this. It's a mess. Did you want to track a list of up to 200 times for using an ability to know when you've completed a ritual task? You probably didn't, but you'll have to. Did you want to track abilities with all different cool-down rates and durations? Of course not, but again, you'll have to. Did you want to give your allies DR 30/— at 10th level? Well, you may have wanted that but that's crazy stupid broken and not even the only benefit of the ability. Did you want to deal five times the normal damage to constructs, completely negating any fun cool things that fighting a golem might be and just have your sword do it for you? Well, maybe not, since that takes away from the enjoyment of the rest of the party. Sigh. If one character in the party has this, it's because the DM is playing favorites and everyone else has to just deal with that, which is bad. This whole thing is an unbalanced, clunky mess. Sandbox this. It pains me to have to use the word fanwank, but this is fanwank. |

Wish at will? +20 something dodge bonus to AC? Barely follow the guideline for a legacy weapon, but somehow isn't. Yep, worth an oppose.
Also you are missing the ability to kill Gods. |
I honestly had no clue how to manifest the fully unlocked power of the Monado in D&D. Wish at will was the closest approximation I could think of. --Luigifan18 (talk) 10:04, 5 November 2017 (MST)
- I don't want you to mistake an opposition for hate. You totally can write great articles, this just isn't one of them. Some things just don't translate well to D&D... and really, that's the big part of it, is translating it to the goals and functionality of the system. Trying to stay true to source material often only makes things worse, sadly. We might be able to drum up some community brainstorming on a rework if you really wanted, just not sure there is the interest for this one in particular at the moment. --Ganteka Future (talk) 11:04, 5 November 2017 (MST)
Monado Buster diagram[edit]
That looks like a pretty regular 10-foot cone to me. --Sulacu (talk) 11:14, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
- It's intended to be double the wielder's melee reach. So it'd be a 20-foot cone for a Large creature. --Luigifan18 (talk) 13:26, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
