It's simple and it works. I dig it.

Seems reasonable enough.

Credit[edit]

Okay, so someone has on one of their user pages that note about cross-class skills costing 1 point per rank, but I just could not find it (and I put off posting this for two months because of that). I would like to credit that user because man oh man, we started doing that in our group and it just feels better when making characters. --Ganteka Future (talk) 20:58, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

I think it's a standard thing from Pathfinder that most people are in favor of ;-)
Even I've got it on my "big list of minor homebrew fixes". --Ghostwheel (talk) 22:03, 10 January 2015 (UTC)
It's been a common house rule for ages, and it's also on my houserules page. I was pretty sure it was included in Tome stuff too, but I can't find it off hand. If so, it would predate PF.
Note that PF also adjusts skill point totals to remove the x4 at first level thing, sets all rank maximums to character level, and adds a +3 bonus if you're invested in a class skill. It's a much larger set of changes than you're suggesting here. - Tarkisflux Talk 02:50, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Interaction Between Variants[edit]

How would this variant interact with this one? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghostwheel (talkcontribs) at

Looks like it should interact very well. Giving a set list of class skills for monsters to start with a good place to begin anyways, since WotC didn't exactly spell out how many ranks each skill got for monsters. I mean, you could reverse engineer that with some time if you felt you needed to adhere to their design for whatever reason. Also, way to make me read that, since I had noticed it when it was published but kinda neglected to read it over. Anyone reading this should go check it out if they're in any way interested in making monsters into PCs. --Ganteka Future (talk) 05:16, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
