Thematically, no different than an evil wizard. The only ability which is unique is Vengeance, which is a straight damage dealer. The other abilities, increasing AC and damage reduction, are not helpful at staying alive. Wizards have low AC even with a +5 bonus, and the DR 1 at the level given won't keep a wizard alive...

Seconding what Havvy said, there's not much that's unique about this class, and the Vengeance class feature is such that at just about any level there are sorcerer/wizard spell options that are clearly superior. Excluding the passive bonuses that a wizard capable of using fly cares little about, and you have a wizard with a complete ineffectual evil aura.

A decent evil wizard who learns no spells other than the ones granted automatically by his class will have 1 or 2 attack spells, and 2 or 3 utility spells at each level. After all, in terms of attack spells, you only need enough to have one that works against your opponents and is of a sufficiently high level to get past their saves. Although the Black Mage's spells known list is much larger, the sum total of spells that he doesn't mostly use in or immediately before combat are: detect magic, read magic, summon monster (Evil only, so no Unicorns), and a bunch of trapping or imprisoning spells. If a Wizard prohibits two schools, that means he can still get at least four of the following: flight, teleportation (and the imprisonment the Black Mage gets, as well as better summoning), mind control (and the symbols the Black Mage gets), undead, illusions, and scrying.

What was said above for the most part.

I don't know. This idea would've sounded good, but I think someone else could try to make a better Black Magus.
